Terms of Use.

Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Forrest Grant, doing business as Splits ("we", "us"), covering the Splits app on iOS and Android and the Splits website at splitscubetimer.com. Installing, opening, or using Splits means you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The service

Splits is a speedcubing timer. It generates scrambles for the puzzles it supports, times your solves to the hundredth of a second, applies WCA-style +2 and DNF penalties, and computes rolling averages from the results — all on your device. The free tier includes the timer, scrambles, penalties, and the shorter averages; Splits Pro adds the features described in the app and on the upgrade screen.

Splits is a practice tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by the World Cube Association, and a time recorded in Splits is not an official result of any kind.

Splits Pro subscription

Splits Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription. The exact price, plan length, and any trial shown to you on the upgrade screen, in your local currency, is what applies; it is set in App Store Connect or Play Console for your storefront and account, not by this page.

• Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account. Unless cancelled before the current period ends, the subscription renews automatically and your payment method is charged for the next period.
• Free trial. Where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial period unless cancelled first. Trial eligibility is one per subscription group, per store account — switching plans does not grant a second trial.
• Cancellation. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID subscription settings or your Google Play subscriptions page — not inside Splits, which has no account system to cancel through. Cancelling stops future renewals; Pro remains available through the end of the period already paid for.
• Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own refund policies. We cannot issue a refund directly.
• Price changes. If a plan's price changes, the store will notify you and, where required, ask you to accept the new price before it applies to your next renewal.
• Availability. A Pro entitlement is tied to the store account that bought it. Buying Pro on iOS does not unlock it on Android, or the other way round, because the two purchases are made through separate stores.

Your solves are yours, and they are on your device

Splits stores your solve history in your device's own storage. There is no account and no copy on any server of ours. With Pro, the app can also back that history up to your iCloud or Google Drive account — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what is written and where. Even then it does not pass through us, and we never hold it.

This means your history can be lost. Without a backup, deleting the app, erasing the device, clearing the website's site data, or using the app's own "Erase all data" removes every solve permanently. We cannot recover it, because we never had it. With a backup, what survives is whatever is in your own cloud account, subject to Apple's or Google's terms rather than ours — so treat a long practice history the way you would treat any other file you care about.

Challenge links

A challenge link carries a puzzle, a time, and a scramble in its URL, and nothing else. Anyone holding the link can open it and see those values. Send them accordingly: don't send a link to someone you would not want to have it, and don't treat a time received in a link as verified — it is a claim made by whoever generated it, not a result we witnessed or can attest to.

Acceptable use

Splits is for personal, non-commercial use timing puzzle solves. Don't reverse engineer or decompile the app; don't attempt to circumvent the Pro entitlement check; don't use the app or its challenge links to harass anyone or to disrupt the service for others.

Accuracy and disclaimer

Splits times solves using your device's clock and displays results to the hundredth of a second. That precision is real, but it is bounded by your device — its display refresh rate, its touch latency, and whatever else it is doing at the time. Splits is a practice timer, not competition equipment, and its results are not a substitute for a WCA-approved Stackmat timer at a sanctioned event.

Scrambles are generated on your device and are intended for practice. They are not certified by any governing body and should not be used to run an official competition.

Splits is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, preservation of your data, or uninterrupted availability.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Splits, including the loss of a solve history. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app or Splits Pro is limited to the amount you paid us for Splits Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms. If a change to these terms is material, the date at the top will be revised and, where practical, we'll note it in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Splits after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms.

Termination

You can stop using Splits at any time by deleting the app; this does not by itself cancel an active subscription, which must be cancelled through the App Store or Google Play as described above. We may suspend or terminate access to Splits Pro features for a use that violates these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
